About

The Doug Hart Lab is a research group, part of the Hatsopoulos Microfluids Laboratory (HML), under the direction of Professor Douglas P. Hart.

Our offices are located in the Hatsopoulos Microfluids Laboratory of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, at MIT Building 3, and we conduct our experiments in the BeaverWorks Center research facility in MIT building NE45.

Lately, our group has been working on Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUV), that can spend time longer at sea thereby allowing us to monitor and explore the ocean at much lower costs than what is currently possible. These vehicles are powered by an aluminum-based fuel developed in the lab. Our fuel produces hydrogen through a hydrolysis reaction, which can then power hydrogen fuel cells and internal combustion engines.
